Svalbard

The first road sign is on exit from the Airport terminal “Beware polar bears”. This artic island was a whaling outpost with a rich mineral reserve of coal. Pristine snow and unlimited opportunity for photography with glaciers, mountains, subterranean caverns, dog sledding, wildlife and much much more. Local transport is the ubiquitous snowmobile. The extreme weather and scenery is truly breathtaking. I do recommend the local swimming pool where views down a snow capped valley are a fabulous infinity pool for locals.
