Seaweed

 

There are three different groups of seaweed and algae. Red, green and brown species are floating canopies of the oceans. Seaweed is the common name for various marine plants that grow in the ocean and rivers. Red and brown algae is commonly found in the marine environment. The tidal current swirls the fronds rhythmically capturing the light and movement which the focus of this ongoing project. The holdfast is a root-like structure which has a prehistoric quality. Recent work has focused on stagnating seaweed within rockpools which creates a white oil that floats on the surface of the water giving you a glimpse of the submerged decomposing seaweed below.
